Taking Forward Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in ICT
Federal Secretary Education, Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, chaired a meeting to review the status of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) in Islamabad Capital Territory and federally administered areas. The representatives of the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE), Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), and Pakistan Foundational Learning (PFL) Hub were present on the occasion. Briefings were given by PIE, FDE and PFL Hub. While appreciating the progress achieved by the FDE and the facilitative role played by the ASPIRE project at national level, the following was decided as the way forward: - Integration of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy into the ongoing curriculum rationalisation exercise. - Review of ongoing activities and their upscaling. - Development of additional reading material and digital assessment tools. - Collaboration and experience sharing with the private education sector. - Development of a roadmap document, based on the FLN Policy 2024, outlining key actions with timelines. The PFL Hub, sponsored by the UNICEF Pakistan, will provide full support for the proposed steps and the Federal Secretary will take regular stocktakes. The Ministry of Education is committed to coordinated effort, continuous monitoring, evidence-based assessment, and stronger collaboration with public and private education providers to improve foundational learning outcomes.
